I am a 14-year sales manager, I
have spent mostly my time in real estate industry. I’ve been part of corporate
management as well. And in the course of my tenure, hitting KPIs was always
part of the role.
I have my own formula of running a
sales department and it always boils down to the sales people, not the product,
not the company. It is always about how to maintain the motivation and drive to
keep selling. It is not an easy task, but as a leader, you have to learn to
profile each personnel. Their triggers and where their emotions are coming
from, for example if a sales person is motivated to make money because of
poverty and his children, my usual approach to motivate will be about
fatherhood, as I am a father myself. If they are driven of their material
aspirations like cars, houses, etc... I would make them watch Billionaire
talks. These are just some of my techniques that works. At the end of the day,
the morale of the salesforce is what matters.
Learning an industry or a product
or a company, is the next best thing to do. It may not be as challenging as
learning your subordinates but it is critical. A salesman’s confidence comes
from knowing what he sells. And that is why constant training is essential to
the task. My mantra is, before releasing a man to hunt, he has to be an expert
combatant first.
As a Vlogger & a Musician, I
am exposed to editing videos, photos and managing Social Media platforms as
well.
Lastly, being a respected leader,
feared and loved… Is also part of the whole narrative of leadership. I love
being in a group, being just a simple tea
my basketball team, or my band, or being a homeowners association officer. I
pick up bits of pieces of anything that can help me build an idea of how to be
inside somebody’s state of mind.
All these, if you aim perfection,
if it becomes part of your whole being. It transcends the phone line, non-face
to face interaction will never be an obstacle.
Thank you and I’m excited to hear
from you!
