As a medical biller (inbound billing executive), I handle various concerns from patients, particularly regarding their claims. In 2017, I worked with Horizon BCBS Insurance under the Billing & Enrollment line of business, and from 2021 to 2024, I worked with HPI as a Billing Executive Supervisor.
Our team handles calls and online chats from patients regarding their medical bills, payments, disputes, and other billing-related concerns. Once a patient is signed up with one of our providers, they automatically receive an online account which we use to send them e-statements and receipts, and they can also check their online billing and choose a payment plan.
We manage over 50 providers in Los Angeles, both in-network and out-of-network, and we handle a wide range of tasks, including W9 form requests, billing/subpoena requests, refund requests, payment posting/disputes/inquiries, negotiations, insurance refund requests, and billing inquiries/disputes, among others. We also handle adjustments, payment postings, adding of insurance information, and sending of statements/receipts. For patient escalations, we either send them to the assigned Account Manager or the AR Team for approval or follow-up.
In addition to these tasks, I handle administrative duties such as the Account Manager's outbound tasks, AR follow-up, and team escalations. We send bi-monthly and monthly reports, which include the team's overall QA scores, total collection amount (for both reps and providers), AHTs, and team productivity.
