I am a Certified Public Accountant with more than thirteen years of work experience in the field of accounting, taxation, and process improvement, both in the Philippines and in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.
I started my career as a tax professional where I was assigned to work on tax compliance and audit of tax clients. I also experienced tax analysis and filing for Philippine income tax and US sales and use tax. These experiences gave me the ability to make sense, comprehend and appreciate tax laws and systems, enabled me to easily observe similarities and differences of taxation in different countries, and inspired me to do regular research and tax studies for personal and professional purposes.
Having a mature understanding and knowledge of taxation became an advantage for me to work on different functions in the corporate world.
I experienced working in the accounts payable department as a Senior Accountant leading junior accountants deliver accurate and timely payments. We ensured that records are properly maintained for compliance and financial audits. We ensured that supplier account reconciliations are done and any difference is resolved and communicated to the internal and external stakeholders. I was also assigned a critical role as a process quality analyst where I did process reviews, root cause analysis of errors, exceptions reporting to management, design and implementation of internal controls, and active involvement in process automations and implementations, including ERP. These roles gave me an in-depth understanding and appreciation of the financial supply chain, and realization on how an effective and efficient internal controls can play a vital role in the overall success of an organization.
I ended my work in the corporate world as general ledger accountant. I must say that this is the role that I am most proud of as I experienced working with both the Chief Accountant and Chief Financial Officer on a daily basis. This role enabled me to specialize in both financial and management reporting. I experienced working with managers of different banks for various purposes like hedging transactions, facility arrangements and renewals, account openings, account reconciliations, and system integrations between our ERPs. I managed the overall accounts, balance sheet and income statement, of assigned subsidiaries. I worked with management for account reconciliations and finalization of financial statements and audits. I reviewed and finalized monthly tax filing obligations of assigned subsidiaries. I did regular tax research to keep myself updated for tax updates that might have tax implications on my transactions and reporting. I reviewed and processed monthly expense claims and payroll of 150+ employees. I worked with internal and external stakeholders to optimize standard ERP functionalities to increase productivity. This role enabled me to be well-rounded with my work as an accountant and inspired me to pursue freelancing work so that I can someday establish a brand for myself as a professional financial services provider.
In addition to the work experiences, I also experienced working as a part time instructor or reviewer for accounting professionals who are preparing for their CPA licensure examination. This experience gave me the confidence to present myself in a large audience and be comfortable with it.
My work experiences helped me gain in-depth knowledge and experience of different applications out in the market which include but are not limited to MS Office applications, SAP, Oracle, Quickbooks, Xero, and tax application softwares.
