We are looking for a detail-oriented and analytical Shopify Competitor and Product Research Expert to join our eCommerce team. In this role, you will be responsible for researching market trends, analyzing competitors’ strategies, and identifying high-demand products that align with our brand’s objectives. Your insights will directly influence our product selection, pricing strategy, marketing campaigns, and overall business growth. You will work closely with product development, marketing, and sales teams to ensure we stay competitive and relevant in the ever-evolving eCommerce landscape.
Key Responsibilities:
Competitor Research and Analysis:
Monitor and analyze competitor Shopify stores and other eCommerce platforms to identify their strengths, weaknesses, and overall market positioning.
Track competitor product offerings, pricing strategies, promotions, and customer engagement tactics.
Provide in-depth competitor SWOT analysis (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, Threats) to inform strategic decisions.
Analyze competitors’ traffic sources, customer reviews, and product ratings to identify trends and areas for improvement.
Prepare regular reports with actionable insights on competitor activities and industry developments.
Product Research and Trend Analysis:
Conduct in-depth research to identify trending products, emerging niches, and consumer demands across various marketplaces.
Use tools such as Google Trends, social media platforms, product research tools (e.g., Jungle Scout, Helium 10, Oberlo), and Shopify analytics to identify high-potential products.
Evaluate market saturation and competitive landscape for potential new product ideas.
Assess product performance, quality, and customer satisfaction through reviews and ratings across different platforms.
Collaborate with the product development team to assess product viability, profitability, and market fit.
Market and Customer Insights:
Analyze customer buying behavior, preferences, and feedback to generate insights on demand patterns and potential product opportunities.
Use customer persona data to tailor research and ensure alignment with target audience needs.
Conduct surveys, polls, and focus groups when necessary to gather direct customer feedback and validate product ideas.
Monitor industry reports, blogs, forums, and trade publications to stay informed about changing market trends and emerging products.
Data-Driven Decision Making:
Provide actionable recommendations based on research data to optimize product offerings, pricing, and marketing strategies.
Work with the marketing team to help tailor product listings, descriptions, and promotions to reflect competitor insights and customer expectations.
Continuously track product performance post-launch to assess sales and customer satisfaction metrics.
Collaboration & Reporting:
Present findings and strategic recommendations to leadership and cross-functional teams on a regular basis.
Work closely with the marketing team to align product offerings with ongoing campaigns, promotions, and seasonal trends.
Prepare and maintain detailed documentation of research, reports, and analysis findings for future reference.
Qualifications:
Proven experience in competitor analysis, product research, or market research in an eCommerce or Shopify environment.
Strong understanding of Shopify's eCommerce platform, tools, and analytics.
Proficiency with product research tools (e.g., Oberlo, Jungle Scout, Helium 10, SEMrush, Ahrefs).
Ability to analyze large sets of data and extract actionable insights for decision-making.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills for clear reporting and presentation.
Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently.
Solid understanding of consumer behavior, product life cycles, and market trends.
Preferred Skills:
Experience in a specific eCommerce niche (fashion, tech, health & beauty, etc.).
Familiarity with digital marketing and SEO strategies to evaluate how competitors rank and perform online.
Experience working with Shopify apps, plugins, or tools that assist with competitor research or market insights.
Knowledge of product sourcing, dropshipping, or private label products.
Experience with data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Google Data Studio) is a plus.
