The Company is a premier sporting goods and entertainment facility located in the Southeastern U.S., dedicated to providing exceptional experiences for our Guests. We are currently seeking a detail-oriented Senior Accountant to join our finance team and contribute to our continued success.
Position Overview
We are looking for a highly skilled Senior Accountant with extensive retail finance experience to lead our finance team. The ideal candidate will bring comprehensive accounting expertise, strong leadership abilities, and excellence in maintaining financial controls and systems. The successful candidate must be comfortable managing both day-to-day operations, long-term financial strategic initiatives, and be comfortable working with executive management.
Key Responsibilities
• Establish and maintain accounting best practices, controls, and systems
• Lead and manage a small remote accounting team
• Direct all accounting operations including:
o Accounts payable management
o General ledger maintenance
o Inventory accounting oversight
• Execute monthly and annual closing procedures
• Prepare and distribute accurate and timely monthly financial statements
• Spearhead process improvements in the areas of operational efficiency, accounting and reporting:
o Automation software for accounts payable approval workflows and payment processing
o Integrated data processing to reduce manual entry and improve reliability of data, ensuring that accounting data is accurately consolidated from multiple systems to produce accurate financial reports
o Work with operational managers to understand front end processes, the impact on financial reporting and internal controls, and strive to enhance reporting that enables leaders to make informed and timely decisions
Key Performance Objectives
• First 3 Months: Become proficient in the financial systems, support the month end close, identify areas for improvement and map out a plan for approval
• First 6 Months: Lead efforts to improve financial processing and reporting
• First 12 Months: Engage with the owner and operations leadership as a strategic financial resource providing valuable financial insights and recommendations
Qualifications
Required
• Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or related field
• CPA required
• Strong understanding of US GAAP
• Minimum 10 years of hands-on accounting experience
• Proven track record as a Senior Accountant with team leadership skills in a retail industry
• Thrives in a fast-paced environment while maintaining leadership effectiveness
• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Quickbooks Online, and other cloud-based accounting software
• Strong technology and computer skills
• Superior organizational, prioritization and time management skills
• Exceptional attention to detail, with a high numerical aptitude
• Strong understanding of retail metrics and inventory management
• Commitment to maintaining confidentiality
Preferred
• Public accounting experience
• Experience with ERP systems and retail-specific accounting or inventory software
• Experience in retail and/or hospitality industries
Work Environment
• Full time, remote, independent contractor role
• Must agree to hold this role exclusively, with no other projects or clients
• Align to the organization’s eastern time zone working hours (8 am – 5 pm EST)
