Real Estate Underwriter

Wentwood Capital is a real estate lending firm based in Miami. We are dedicated to providing tailored financial solutions to our clients. As we continue to expand our operations, we are actively seeking a talented and experienced individual to join our team as a Real Estate Underwriter. The ideal candidate will be responsible for evaluating and underwriting a variety of real estate loan applications, including but not limited to residential, commercial, and investment properties. This role requires strong analytical skills, a comprehensive understanding of real estate markets, and the ability to work independently in a remote environment.

Key Responsibilities:
• Loan Application Review: Evaluate a broad range of real estate loan applications, ensuring that all necessary documents are provided and complete.
• Risk Assessment: Conduct a detailed analysis of property values, borrower creditworthiness, and overall loan risk, with a focus on the potential profitability and stability of the property.
• Collateral Evaluation: Assess the value of collateral (residential, commercial, and investment properties) through appraisals, market analysis, and comparable property reviews to ensure appropriate loan-to-value (LTV) ratios.
• Creditworthiness: Review borrower financials, including bank statements, asset verifications, tax returns, and credit reports, to determine the borrower’s ability to repay the loan.
• Underwriting Decision: Approve, deny, or conditionally approve loan applications based on established underwriting criteria, and provide well-documented justifications for each decision.
• Loan Structuring: Collaborate with company leadership and real estate professionals to structure deals that align with risk management practices while optimizing profitability.
• Documentation: Ensure accuracy and completeness of all necessary loan documentation before final approval and closing.
• Communication: Work closely with borrowers, brokers, and internal teams (sales, processing, and closing) to facilitate a smooth loan approval and funding process.
• Underwriting Reports: Prepare and issue detailed underwriting reports summarizing the analysis, risk assessment, and final decision for each loan application.
• Remote Collaboration: Utilize digital communication tools to effectively collaborate with team members and stakeholders across various locations.

Qualifications:
• Proven experience as an Underwriter in the real estate sector, with a broad understanding of different property types (residential, commercial, investment).
• Strong knowledge of real estate market trends, property valuations, and LTV ratios.
• Proficient in analyzing borrower credit and financial statements.
• Experience with structuring a variety of real estate loans, including residential mortgages, commercial loans, and investment property financing.
• Strong analytical and decision-making skills, with a high attention to detail.
• Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain underwriting decisions clearly and effectively.
• Self-motivated and capable of working independently in a remote environment.
• Familiarity with loan origination software and digital communication tools.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Bachelor's degree in Finance, Real Estate, Business, or a related field.
• Experience in remote work or telecommuting environments.
• Knowledge of regulatory requirements related to real estate lending.
