Position Overview:
We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Paralegal or Attorney to support our criminal defense practice. This role requires in-depth knowledge of criminal law, including motion preparation, legal research, and document management. The ideal candidate will be responsible for preparing motions, drafting legal documents, and ensuring compliance with legal procedures. They will work closely with attorneys to ensure the defense strategy is executed effectively, and help prepare cases for court. This is a remote position requiring exceptional written English, organizational skills, and a strong grasp of U.S. criminal law procedures fundamentals.
Key Responsibilities:
• Draft, review, and be prepared to file various legal documents including motions, briefs, and memoranda.
• Prepare appendices for motions, including organizing exhibits, declarations, and supporting documentation.
• Prepare the table of contents for legal filings, ensuring accuracy and compliance with court rules.
• Conduct in-depth legal research on complex criminal law issues and generate a research summary for the attorney.
• Analyze discovery materials to identify critical issues and inconsistencies.
• Prepare memoranda and case summaries to aid in litigation strategy.
• Assist in the preparation of motions for hearings, trials, and appeals, including motions to suppress evidence, dismiss charges, or modify bail.
• Manage case files, ensuring all relevant documents and evidence are properly documented and stored.
• Prepare discovery responses, subpoenas, and other legal documents as directed.
• Coordinate with clients, witnesses, and experts to gather information and evidence for cases.
• Maintain communication with the court, opposing counsel, and clients regarding motions, hearings, and court dates.
• Provide support during trial preparation, including organizing exhibits, trial briefs, and witness lists.
• Ensure all legal documents comply with applicable state and federal rules and deadlines.
Qualifications:
• Paralegal Certificate or Law Degree (JD) required.
• Proven experience in criminal defense law, specifically in motion practice.
• Strong knowledge of court rules, procedures, and legal writing standards.
• Experience preparing appendices, tables of contents, and organizing large case files.
• Excellent research, analytical, and writing skills.
• Ability to manage multiple cases and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
• Strong communication skills and attention to detail.
• Experience with legal research tools (e.g.,Lexis/Nexis and Westlaw) and document management software, such as Clio CRM software.
Preferred:
• Prior experience in criminal defense law or litigation.
• Knowledge of specific motions in criminal defense, including motions to suppress, dismiss, and motions for bond
reductions.
• Familiarity with Nevada local court rules and procedures in criminal defense.
