Solar Designer – Residential, Ground Mount, and Commercial Systems

About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Solar Designer to join our team. This role involves designing residential, ground mount, and commercial solar energy systems.

The ideal candidate has a strong background in solar system design and the ability to create detailed, code-compliant designs that optimize energy production.

Key Responsibilities:
*Solar System Design & Layout
- Design roof-mounted, ground-mounted, and commercial solar PV systems, ensuring efficiency, performance, and compliance with local regulations.
- Perform site assessments and develop electrical and structural designs based on project requirements.
- Select and specify solar equipment, including panels, inverters, and mounting structures.
- Utilize solar design software to create system layouts, energy production estimates, and electrical schematics.
- Ensure timely completion of Residential Proposal Design packages, including array layout, Bill of Quantities (BOQ), Sunnova quotations, and system designs.
- Generate shade reports for each proposal design.

*Proposal & Software Expertise
- Proficiency in proposal creation using OpenSolar, Eagleview, Aurora Solar, and Vision design software.
- Consistently deliver requested designs within Service Level Agreements (SLAs).
- Collaborate with the Sales Team to update and refine proposal designs.

*Permitting, Compliance & Coordination
- Coordinate with Engineering and Operations Teams regarding equipment selection for initial designs.
- Verify correct fee owner by reviewing project address location on public and tax maps.
- Utilize Satellite map sites, Irradiance maps, and Flood Hazard Map tools to assess project feasibility.

Qualifications
Proven experience designing solar energy systems for residential, ground mount, and commercial projects.
Proficiency in solar design software (e.g., OpenSolar, Eagleview, Aurora Solar, Vision, Helioscope, AutoCAD, PVsyst, or similar tools).
Knowledge of electrical design principles, including NEC codes and interconnection requirements.
Experience in preparing permit drawings and engineering documentation.
Familiarity with mounting systems, structural considerations, and system optimization for different installation types.

Bonus Skills (Preferred but Not Required)
NABCEP certification or equivalent industry accreditation.
Experience with battery storage and hybrid solar systems.
Background in structural and electrical engineering related to solar.
