Material Take-off and Estimator for the Chicago Area (remote)

We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Material Take-off and Estimator to join our team. The ideal candidate will possess strong analytical skills, a competitive spirit, and the ability to accurately assess project needs. This position involves reading and interpreting architectural drawings, performing detailed material and labor takeoffs, estimating costs for construction phases, and contributing to the preparation of thorough project estimates.

Key Responsibilities:

Drawing Analysis: Read, analyze, and interpret architectural and engineering drawings.
Material and Labor Takeoffs: Accurately perform takeoffs and pricing for materials and labor, ensuring alignment with project specifications.
Cost Estimation: Help prepare detailed cost estimates for all phases of construction, including:
Materials
Labor
Equipment
Buyout items
Transportation and logistics costs
Project Participation: Collaborate with purchasing, vendors, and subcontractors to ensure cost accuracy.
Software Utilization: Utilize estimating software and tools to streamline the estimation process.
Competitive Performance: Contribute to winning bids by leveraging expertise and a drive to compete in the market.
Judgment and Decision-Making: Apply sound judgment when analyzing costs and profit margins to achieve company goals.
Skills and Qualifications:

Technical Skills:
Ability to read and understand architectural, civil, and structural drawings.
Knowledge in multiple construction systems, such as:
Civil/site construction
Foundations and structural systems
Metals, casework, doors, and specialties
Interior and exterior building systems
Mechanical and electrical systems
Industry Knowledge: Understanding of US market construction standards and pricing.
Computer Skills: Proficiency with:
Estimating software (e.g., ProEst, Bluebeam, or similar tools)
Microsoft Excel and other relevant software.
Attention to Detail: Strong analytical and numerical skills with a focus on accuracy.
Education & Experience: A satisfactory combination of relevant education and professional experience.
