Data Engineer

Job Summary

We are looking for a detail-oriented and technically skilled Data Engineer specializing in SQL development, Power BI reporting, and database management. The ideal candidate will play a vital role in designing, implementing, and maintaining robust data solutions to drive data-driven decision-making across the organization.

This position involves hands-on work in SQL query development, database maintenance, and report creation, alongside designing scalable data structures and crafting impactful dashboards and reports to meet business needs.

SQL Development and Database Maintenance
* Write, optimize, and troubleshoot complex SQL queries to support reporting, analytics, and data extraction requirements.
* Design and maintain database schemas, tables, views, and indexes to ensure efficient data retrieval and storage.
* Develop stored procedures, functions, and scripts for data processing and transformation.
* Monitor and maintain database performance, performing regular updates, indexing, and backup procedures to ensure data integrity and availability.
* Collaborate with teams to define and implement data pipelines and ETL processes, ensuring accurate and timely data ingestion.


Power BI Report Development
* Create and maintain interactive Power BI dashboards and reports tailored to business requirements.
* Collaborate with stakeholders to understand reporting needs and deliver actionable insights through data visualizations.
* Write and optimize DAX (Data Analysis Expressions) for calculated measures and aggregations.
* Develop reusable data models and datasets for scalable reporting solutions.
* Implement security protocols, such as row-level security, within Power BI for controlled access to sensitive data.

Report Writing and Data Presentation
* Design and develop custom reports using SQL and other reporting tools to address specific business needs.
* Generate ad hoc reports and dashboards as requested, providing clear, actionable insights to stakeholders.
* Ensure all reports are accurate, consistent, and delivered on time.
* Automate reporting processes to streamline data delivery and improve efficiency.


Data Governance and Quality Management
* Ensure data accuracy, integrity, and consistency across all reports and databases.
* Establish and enforce best practices for database management and reporting.
* Monitor and address data quality issues, collaborating with stakeholders to resolve discrepancies.


Collaboration and Support
* Partner with business analysts, data scientists, and IT teams to implement data solutions and address data-related challenges.
* Provide training and support to team members and business users on Power BI, SQL, and database functionalities.
* Stay current on emerging technologies, tools, and best practices in data engineering and analytics.


Required Skills and Experience:
* Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, Information Systems, or a computer related field.
* 8+ years of experience in data engineering, with a focus on SQL development, database management, and Power BI reporting.
* Proficiency in SQL, including experience writing and optimizing complex queries, stored procedures, and functions.
* Expertise in Power BI for report creation, data modeling, and DAX scripting.
* Strong understanding of database structures (e.g., relational databases, star/snowflake schemas) and performance optimization techniques.
* Experience with ETL processes and tools for data extraction, transformation, and loading.
* Ability to troubleshoot and resolve database performance and integrity issues.


Preferred Skills:
* Familiarity with other reporting tools like Tableau or QlikView.
* Experience with cloud-based platforms (e.g., Azure, AWS, or Google Cloud).
* Proficiency in Python or R for data manipulation and analysis.
* Certifications in Power BI, SQL, or database management.
