Backend Engineer – AI & Scalable Systems

TO Ventures is looking for a Backend Engineer to help build and maintain AI-driven tools, real-time applications, and scalable backend systems. This is an entry-to-mid-level position for someone eager to work with AI-powered solutions, optimize databases, and develop backend services that support high-performance applications.

As part of the team, you’ll be working on projects that involve AI chat systems, automation tools, and intelligent backend infrastructure. You’ll have the opportunity to gain experience integrating large language models (LLMs), vector databases, and real-time data processing. This is a long-term role with opportunities to expand your skills in AI, backend engineering, and cloud infrastructure.

We are looking for someone smart, eager to learn, and able to execute tasks with guidance.

What You’ll Do

Develop and maintain APIs for AI-driven applications.
Integrate AI models (DeepSeek R1) and vector databases (ChromaDB).
Work with Firebase (Auth, Firestore, Functions, Storage) for backend services.
Optimize database queries and improve system performance.
Implement authentication, access control, and security measures.
Write clean, maintainable code with proper documentation.
Assist in debugging, fixing bugs, and troubleshooting system issues.

Key Skills & Experience

Required:
Basic to intermediate experience in backend development (Node.js or Python preferred).
Familiarity with Firebase (Auth, Firestore, Functions) or willingness to learn.
Understanding of API development & RESTful services.
Basic knowledge of databases (SQL or NoSQL).
Some exposure to AI tools, vector databases, or LLMs (or a strong desire to learn).
Experience working with Git and version control.
Good problem-solving skills and ability to research solutions independently.

Bonus (Not Required, But Preferred):
Experience with Cursor AI-powered development workflows.
Familiarity with ChromaDB or other vector databases.
Understanding of LLM prompt engineering & AI model APIs.
Experience with authentication & security best practices.
Interest in AI automation and AI-powered chatbots.
