JOB OVERVIEW

A criminal defense law firm in California is building a team and is looking for a virtual lawyer employee to help with drafting motions for court and some case analysis.

I like legal writing and teaching others about legal writing; but I have a lot of it. I can produce enough motion work to keep someone busy part time; 20 hours per week. Motions include post-conviction motions for relief, Expungement motions, motions to suppress, and all kinds of others. Must have a Juris Doctor and a strong interest in writing and in criminal law---experience in writing in this area is not required. We already have the research mostly completed for these motions and we will even be using template materials. The real work will be to dive into voluminous fact patterns and pull out the relevant facts and weave them into arguments using the law provided for new motions using those templates. It sounds daunting, but I am just looking for a lawyer who likes to read the law and write arguments (not every lawyer does); I can walk you through the rest. I am prepared to do a lot of training as we go through this process. These are big projects, and I want to fall back into a review/revise role and let someone else do the drafting role. The projects will have plenty of time to complete and to seek feedback along the way. The pay rate is $6 per hour at 85 hours per month; employment is through Global Squirrels (Stripe), an EOR and includes Philhealth, HDMF and 13th month pay. If interested, please send proof of law degree or admission to the bar and 1-2 writing samples (motions or persuasive letters with analysis of some kind if possible). I do not need a virtual assistant; I already have the best.

If you are a lawyer who likes to write and wants a "steady gig" with interesting projects, this is the job for you.
