Job Title: Jr. Accountant
Nautical Staffing is looking for a Junior Accountant that will work with our client in the Real Estate industry and will be supporting the business’ financial statements.
Role Overview:
This junior-level accounting role is designed for a detail-oriented individual with a solid accounting background. The position involves managing and reconciling financial data, including trial balances and multiple workbooks (up to 80-100), while supporting month-end close processes in accordance with Client’s internal workflows and US GAAP guidelines. The role supports both standard accounting operations and more specialized tasks as outlined below.
Responsibilities:
Month-End Close Support:
- Track financial reports from property management companies using Smartsheet.
- Upload trial balance data to Box, our secure cloud system.
- Ensure that after closing, no extra or unauthorized accounting entries are added.
GL Tie-Out & Documentation:
- Verify that the numbers in the trial balance match supporting documents (e.g., bank reconciliations, aged receivables, asset schedules, depreciation, and amortization reports).
- Review various general ledger accounts (such as cash, receivables, fixed assets, leasing concessions, and mortgage payables) to make sure all figures are accurate.
Analytical Review:
- Compare current financial results against budgets and past periods.
- Look for significant differences or unusual changes in the numbers.
- Report any discrepancies or unexpected findings to senior tea
Collaboration & Communication:
- Work closely with property accountants, the asset management team, and other stakeholders.
- Help resolve any discrepancies or issues found during the financial review process.
- Assist in preparing final trial balance reports and provide the necessary documentation for any significant variations.
General Accounting & Administrative Duties:
- Manage up to 80 workbooks with high accuracy and attention to detail.
- Support additional administrative tasks as needed, including helping to train new tea
- Adapt quickly to rapid changes and tight closing schedules.
- And other Ad-hoc duties as stated by the Direct Manager
Qualifications:
- Basic accounting background (experience as a Junior Accountant or similar role).
- Prior Experience in US real estate accounting, especially with multi-family properties, is highly desirable.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to handle multiple tasks accurately.
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel; experience with Yardi is preferred.
- Familiarity with analytical procedures and general ledger processes.
- Good communication skills and the ability to work effectively with others.
- Willingness to work during US Business hours to support the business needs.
