We are seeking an experienced AMI Technical Specialist to support the implementation, integration, and management of Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) systems for our clients in the Power, Energy, and Utilities industry.
Position Overview
The AMI Technical Specialist will play a critical role in advising and supporting clients on all technical aspects of AMI systems, including selection, implementation, integration, and optimization of AMI technologies. This position requires a deep understanding of AMI systems, communications, data management, and vendor-specific solutions. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with AMI technologies and a strong understanding of the Power, Energy, and Utilities sector.
Key Responsibilities
AMI System Implementation & Integration: Lead the implementation and integration of AMI systems, ensuring alignment with client requirements, timelines, and specifications. Provide technical expertise on system design, architecture, and integration with existing infrastructure.
Vendor & Technology Evaluation: Evaluate and recommend AMI technologies, vendors, and communications systems based on client needs. Work closely with clients to select the best solutions for their specific operational requirements and budget.
System Configuration & Calibration: Oversee the configuration, calibration, and testing of AMI systems to ensure they are accurately capturing and reporting utility data.
Data Management & Analytics: Advise clients on the collection, processing, and analysis of data from AMI systems. Provide guidance on how to extract valuable insights fro
Communication Technologies: Provide expertise on the communication infrastructure and protocols used within AMI systems, including wireless, cellular, radio frequency (RF), and power line carrier (PLC) communication methods.
System Troubleshooting & Optimization: Identify and resolve technical issues with AMI systems, ensuring minimal downtime and maximizing system performance. Implement optimization strategies to improve data accuracy, system reliability, and overall efficiency.
Compliance & Standards: Ensure that AMI systems comply with relevant regulatory standards, industry best practices, and cybersecurity requirements.
Client Consultation & Support: Serve as the primary technical point of contact for clients, offering expert advice and ongoing support during AMI system deployment and beyond.
Training & Documentation: Develop and deliver training materials to clients, enabling them to effectively use and manage their AMI systems. Create and maintain comprehensive documentation on system architecture, configurations, and troubleshooting procedures.
Industry Trends & Innovation: Stay updated on the latest developments in AMI technologies, standards, and trends within the Power, Energy, and Utilities sectors. Share insights and recommendations with clients and internal teams.
Qualifications
Experience:
5+ years of hands-on experience with AMI systems, technologies, and communications in the Power, Energy, and Utilities industry.
Strong understanding of AMI components, including smart meters, communication infrastructure, data management platforms, and integration with utility operations.
Experience working with leading AMI vendors, such as Itron, Landis+Gyr, Sensus, Aclara, or similar.
Knowledge of communications technologies used in AMI systems, including RF, PLC, cellular, and internet-based solutions.
Familiarity with meter data management (MDM) systems, advanced analytics, and integration with utility billing and operational systems.
Proven ability to troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues within AMI environments.
Skills & Competencies:
Strong technical knowledge of AMI system design, architecture, and integration practices.
Ability to assess and select appropriate AMI technologies and vendors based on client needs.
Familiarity with industry standards, including IEC, ANSI, and NIST, as well as cybersecurity protocols for utility systems.
Excellent problem-solving, troubleshooting, and analytical skills.
Ability to communicate complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Strong project management skills and the ability to work in cross-functional teams.
Knowledge of data management systems and how to leverage data for operational improvements.
Ability to deliver training and create technical documentation for clients and internal teams.
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
Relevant certifications (e.g., AMI, Metering, or Smart Grid certifications) are highly preferred.
