Cookbook Editor/Designer
Are you a creative professional with a flair for culinary content and design? We’re seeking a detail-oriented expert to help create, edit, and format a high-quality cookbook for Barnes & Noble and other major retailers. Key Responsibilities
Design & Layout: Develop a polished 8.25x11 cookbook layout using Adobe InDesign, ensuring professional typography, image placement, and margins.
Photo & Graphic Editing: Perform basic image edits in Adobe Photoshop, and create or tweak graphic elements in Illustrator as needed.
Copyediting & Proofreading: Refine culinary content, verify measurements, and maintain consistency in recipe formatting.
Project Management: Coordinate schedules, communicate progress, and meet deadlines for a smooth publishing process.
Required Skills & Experience
Cookbook Experience: Proven track record editing or designing cookbooks, plus familiarity with culinary terminology and recipe writing.
Graphic Design Savvy: Expertise in font pairing, layout spacing, and cohesive design for print.
Publishing Knowledge: Experience with print-on-demand platforms (Barnes & Noble Press, IngramSpark, Amazon KDP), including file specs and color/bleed requirements.
Software Proficiency: InDesign (primary), Photoshop/Illustrator (basic), Microsoft Word or Google Docs, and PDF editing tools (Acrobat).
Attention to Detail: Mastery of proofreading and copyediting, familiarity with style guides like The Chicago Manual of Style or The Recipe Writer’s Handbook.

8.25x11 Trim Size Expertise: Capable of designing layouts for this specific dimension, accounting for margins, spine, and binding requirements.
Print-Ready File Preparation: Skill in meeting Barnes & Noble’s PDF/X standards, correct resolution (DPI), and color modes (CMYK).
Strong Organization: Ability to structure content into chapters, create a table of contents and recipe index, and manage timelines effectively.
