Job Description:
As an Insurance Referral Specialist, you will be responsible for managing and coordinating patient referrals, ensuring all necessary authorizations and approvals are secured for services. Your role is critical in facilitating smooth communication between patients, providers, and insurance companies to ensure timely and accurate referrals. This is a full-time, remote position requiring expertise in referral coordination and knowledge of insurance policies and procedures.
Responsibilities:
Coordinate and process referrals for 15-20 patients daily across multiple clinics.
Communicate with insurance providers to verify coverage for referrals and obtain necessary authorizations.
Ensure referrals comply with insurance requirements, including pre-approvals and coverage limitations.
Maintain accurate and organized records of referrals and related documentation.
Work closely with healthcare providers, patients, and insurance representatives to resolve referral-related issues or discrepancies.
Educate patients on their referral status and insurance-related requirements.
Manage referral workflows using electronic health record (EHR) systems or other designated tools.
Ensure compliance with HIPAA and other regulatory standards in managing patient information.
Requirements:
- Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in healthcare referral coordination or insurance-related roles.
- Strong knowledge of insurance policies, referral processes, and pre-authorization requirements.
- Proficiency in using EHR systems and insurance platforms such as Availity, Navinet, or payer-specific portals.
- Excellent communication skills to liaise with patients, providers, and insurance companies effectively.
- High attention to detail and ability to manage multiple referrals in a fast-paced environment.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and meet deadlines with a high level of reliability.
- Familiarity with CPT and ICD-10 codes is preferred but not mandatory.
