Product Developer for Heavy Equipment Automation

Job Sumarry: Responsible for driving the development of cutting-edge technologies in heavy equipment, with a focus on automation, systems integration, telematics solutions, and GPS technologies. This role requires expertise in systems like Parker IQAN, including its software suite and tools, and a deep understanding of designing intuitive user interfaces that enhance the operation of heavy equipment. This position will manage technical communications and troubleshooting tasks, including resolving issues with rock crushing equipment and collaborating with external vendors. Additionally, this position will be responsible for implementing telematics solutions, commissioning new GPS receivers, managing subscription services, and designing and installing advanced automation systems for optimizing drill fleet and portable rock crushing plant performance. Collaboration with cross-functional teams, including engineering, design, and manufacturing, will be essential in bringing innovative products to market.

Key Responsibilities:
1. Automation System Development: Lead the development and integration of automation systems for heavy equipment, with a particular focus on systems like Parker IQAN, utilizing tools such as IQANdesign, IQANsimulate, and IQANrun.
2. User Interface Design: Design and develop user interfaces for heavy equipment operation, ensuring ease of use, safety, and efficiency.
3. Automation System Installation: Design and install automation systems for rock crushing plants and drill equipment, including sensor placement, programming, and motor optimization to maximize production.
4. GPS System Integration: Integrate and optimize GPS systems, including Trimble RTX, into heavy equipment for precise navigation and control.
5. Telematics Implementation: Implement telematics solutions for automatic data collection from mobile equipment to enhance operational efficiency and data-driven decision-making.
6. Technical Troubleshooting: Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues, including identifying and fixing problems with rock crushing equipment (e.g., dead spots on potentiometers) and advising technicians on replacing faulty components.
7. GPS Receiver Commissioning: Assist in commissioning new SparkFun Facet RTK L-band GPS receivers and renew PointPerfect correction service subscriptions.
8. Vendor Communication: Manage communication with external vendors (e.g., Verizon) to address and resolve access and connectivity problems.
9. IQAN Tools Utilization: Utilize IQAN tools like IQANrun for diagnosing systems and IQANsimulate for safer testing of new applications before deployment.
10. Cross-Functional Collaboration: Collaborate with engineers and designers to create innovative solutions that meet the needs of our workforce and customers.
11. Market Research: Conduct market research to identify emerging trends and technologies in heavy equipment, automation, telematics, and GPS systems.
12. Product Requirement Definition: Work closely with operations to define product requirements and ensure successful product launches.
13. Prototype Testing and Validation: Test and validate prototypes to ensure they meet performance, safety, and reliability standards.
14. Technical Support and Training: Provide technical support and training to internal teams and customers on new products and technologies.
15. Continuous Improvement: Stay up-to-date with industry developments and continuously improve product designs based on customer feedback and technological advancements.

Qualifications:
1. Educational Background: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Industrial Design, or equivalent experience in a related field.
2. Product Development Experience: 5 years of proven experience in product development, specifically in the heavy equipment or industrial automation sectors.
3. Automation Systems Expertise: Expertise in automation systems, particularly Parker IQAN, and experience using its software tools such as IQANdesign, IQANsimulate, and IQANrun.
4. Automation System Design: Experience in designing and installing automation systems for industrial processes, including sensor placement and programming.
5. GPS Systems Knowledge: Strong knowledge of GPS systems, including Trimble RTX, and experience commissioning GPS receivers and managing subscriptions (e.g., SparkFun Facet RTK L-band, PointPerfect correction service).
6. Telematics Implementation Experience: Experience in implementing telematics solutions for automatic data collection from mobile equipment.
7. Heavy Equipment Troubleshooting: Experience in troubleshooting and repairing heavy equipment, including rock crushing equipment, DTH and top hammer drill rigs, wheel loaders, and excavators.
8. User Interface Design Knowledge: Strong knowledge of user interface (UI) design for heavy equipment operation.
9. Design Tools Proficiency: Experience with CAD software and other design tools.
10. Team Collaboration Skills: Ability to work collaboratively in a cross-functional team environment.
11. Problem-Solving Ability: Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
12. Communication Skills: Excellent communication and project management skills.
Industry Standards Familiarity: Familiarity with safety standards and regulations in the heavy equipment industry.
