As a Remote Production & Merchandising Lead, you will be responsible for managing our garment production of new and replenishment designs. You'll work closely with the design, marketing, and customer service teams to ensure timely delivery of high-quality apparel. You will create and manage production forecasts, oversee inventory, ensure production meets margin targets, and manage remote relationships with suppliers and contractors to maintain efficient production processes.
This role requires someone with a growth mindset who is eager to learn, adapt, and grow within the position while contributing to continuous process improvement. The ideal candidate will be a proactive, tech-savvy problem solver who is comfortable working remotely and thrives in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Production Management & Planning:
2. Order Management: Manage production orders, working with merchandising to create POs and SKU breakdowns, and submit for CEO approval.
3. Supplier & Sourcing Management: Maintain relationships with suppliers/contractors, obtain production quotes, flag cost changes, and source materials, notions, and supplies that meet our production and ethical standards.
4. Forecasting & Merchandising Analytics: Create annual and monthly production forecasts for replenishment and new designs, optimizing resource allocation and ensuring alignment with the planned budget. Generate and analyze sell-through reports to identify trends and opportunities for improvement.
5. Inventory & Data Management:
6. Inventory Planning & Tracking: Manage inventory in Shopify, adding new stock, SKUs, and reporting on inventory levels. Conduct remote audits of stock levels and provide accurate forecasting for replenishments based on sales performance.
7. Data Analytics: Use advanced Excel/Google Sheets skills to create, analyze, and report on production progress, stock levels, and overall process efficiency, applying data-driven insights to support decision-making.
8. Quality Control & Production Coordination:
Supplier Compliance: Audit production contractors remotely to ensure adherence to our code of conduct, environmental practices, and employee rights.
9. Purchase Orders: Oversee the creation, approval, and follow-up of POs for materials and labor, ensuring compliance and timely delivery of goods.
10. Quality Monitoring: Manage quality control reports and handle inquiries related to quality issues, customer service responses, and contractor management.
11. Cross-Functional Collaboration:
12. Team Leadership: Lead weekly remote Production & Design meetings, coordinating with teams on production timelines and resolving issues.
13. Design Feasibility: Collaborate with the Designer and CEO to review the technical and cost feasibility of new designs, working remotely to ensure they meet production requirements.
14. Project Management: Coordinate with teams using Asana or other project management tools to track and prioritize tasks.
15. E-Commerce & Pre-Order Management:
16. 3PL Coordination: Oversee remote management of 3PL relationships, ensuring smooth onboarding, issue resolution, and pre-order management.
17. Shopify Management: Manage Shopify entries for products, SKUs, and barcode creation, ensuring new products are accurately listed and optimized for sale.
18. Process Improvement & Compliance:
19. Continuous Improvement: Work with suppliers and contractors to optimize production processes for efficiency, reduce costs, and implement continuous improvement practices remotely.
20. Supplier Audits: Conduct virtual audits and manage contractor performance to ensure ongoing compliance with our standards.
***Key Skills and Qualifications***
Minimum 3+ years of experience managing Apparel production
Growth Mindset: Eager to learn, adapt, and grow within the role.
Production Management: Previous experience managing apparel production; remote experience preferred.
Merchandising Analytics: Ability to complete forecasts and produce reports on sell-through and inventory performance.
Inventory Planning: Comfortable reviewing, forecasting, and making recommendations for inventory based on sales data.
Exceptional Analytics: Highly proficient in Excel/Google Sheets with data analytics, formulas, and reporting.
Sourcing Experience: Proven experience sourcing materials, notions, and supplies for apparel that meet production and ethical standards.
Organizational Skills: Strong ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently and stay organized in a fast-paced environment.
Project Management: Experience using tools like Asana, Slack, and other project management software.
Reliable Internet & Phone IP Access: Must have a stable and fast internet connection, along with the ability to access an internet phone for remote check-ins with suppliers and manufacturers.
Tech-Savvy: Quick to pick up new technology and create clear, documented processes using tools like Loom, Slack, and Shopify.
Familiarity with E-commerce Platforms: Experience using Shopify and 3PL fulfillment software; knowledge of Xero is an asset.
Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to lead remote teams and suppliers
