Position Overview:
We are an Australian established 12-year-old e-commerce business, seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Certified Public Accountant (CPA) / Senior Company Accountant to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in Australian tax laws, Business Activity Statements (BAS), Goods and Services Tax (GST), and financial reporting. This role requires a professional who has a minimum 5 years experience working in an Australian company, excels in accounts payable and receivable processes, inventory management, and bookkeeping, with proficiency in XERO, Zoho Books, MS Excel, and Google Sheets.
Key Responsibilities:
Tax Compliance & Reporting:
Prepare and lodge BAS returns, and ensure compliance with Australian taxation laws.
Handle tax-related matters, including payroll tax and other statutory obligations.
Accounts Payable & Receivable:
Oversee the full-cycle accounts payable and receivable processes, ensuring timely payments and accurate invoicing.
Manage supplier and customer accounts, addressing discrepancies and resolving them.
Financial Reporting & Analysis:
Prepare and analyze monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports.
Conduct variance analysis, and margin calculations, and identify key financial trends to provide insights for decision-making.
Technical Accounting & Bookkeeping:
Manage day-to-day bookkeeping functions, including data entry, account reconciliations, and financial transactions.
Ensure accurate and timely reconciliation of bank accounts, credit cards, and other financial instruments.
Maintain and manage inventory data to ensure accurate stock levels and valuation.
Master Price List & Margins:
Develop, maintain, and update the company’s master price list.
Calculate and monitor margins for products/services, providing analysis on pricing strategies.
Process Improvement & Compliance:
Identify and implement process improvements to enhance the efficiency and accuracy of financial operations.
Ensure compliance with internal accounting policies and relevant regulatory standards.
Team Leadership & Development:
Lead and mentor a small finance team, providing guidance and support to ensure high performance.
Foster a collaborative team environment focused on continuous improvement.
Software & Technical Proficiency:
Utilize XERO, Zoho Books, Zoho Analytics, MS Excel, and Google Sheets to manage financial data, reports, and bookkeeping processes. Develop financial models and tools in MS Excel and Google Sheets to support business operations and reporting.
Cashflow Management & Budgeting:
Monitor and manage cashflow, providing regular forecasts and insights to management.
Assist with the budgeting and forecasting process to align financial performance with business objectives.
Key Skills & Competencies:
Analytical & Problem-Solving:
Strong attention to detail with excellent analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving abilities.
Ability to assess financial data and provide meaningful insights and recommendations.
Technical Proficiency:
Advanced proficiency in XERO, Zoho Books, MS Excel, and Google Sheets. Strong knowledge of financial reporting and accounting software systems.
Communication & Leadership:
Strong written and verbal communication skills. Proven experience in leading teams, providing mentorship, and fostering professional development.
Time Management & Organization:
Ability to manage multiple tasks, prioritize effectively, and meet tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Qualifications & Experience:
CPA qualification or equivalent required.
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
5+ years of experience in a senior accounting role in an Australian company, with a focus on Australian tax laws, BAS, and GST.
Proven experience with accounts payable, receivable, financial reporting, and inventory management.
Demonstrated ability to lead teams and implement process improvements for increased efficiency.
