Our UK-based PHP development agency, specializing in WordPress development, is seeking a talented WordPress Developer to join our fully remote team. As the first hire beyond our two founders, you will play a crucial role in shaping the development direction of our agency. Your main responsibilities will involve developing plugins and themes for WordPress projects, ranging from building websites from scratch using the Gutenberg Block Editor or page builders to working with existing projects and extending functionality through custom code, filters, and hooks.

You should possess a deep understanding of web development, particularly with PHP and JavaScript. While a comprehensive understanding of WordPress is crucial, we are open to candidates who are willing to develop their WordPress skills on the job. Familiarity with Git, local development environments, PHP configuration, and adhering to coding standards is essential. As we operate remotely, excellent communication skills and the ability to work independently are paramount.

### Responsibilities

- Planning and implementing new features for WordPress sites, including custom plugin and theme development.
- Refactoring existing codebase and performing bug fixes to enhance site performance and reliability.
- Collaborating closely with the founding team to align project development with company goals.
- Ensuring timely delivery of projects in accordance with specified requirements.
- Maintaining regular communication with the team to ensure project milestones are met and challenges are addressed promptly.
- Prioritizing tasks effectively and communicating any issues or roadblocks to the team in a timely manner.
- Professionally and respectfully interacting with clients to understand their needs and provide solutions that meet their expectations.

### Technical Requirements

- Strong expertise in PHP, with a particular focus on WordPress development, including themes and plugins.
- Basic to intermediate knowledge of JavaScript, sufficient for integrating interactive elements into WordPress sites.
- Solid, demonstrable understanding of Object-Oriented Programming (OOP) principles and how they apply to WordPress development
- Proficiency in using version control systems, specifically Git, for source code management.
- In-depth knowledge of HTML5 and CSS3 for creating responsive and visually appealing website layouts.
- Experience with MySQL, including the design and optimization of database-driven WordPress sites.
- Familiarity with RESTful APIs and integrating external services and data into WordPress sites.
- Ability to set up and manage local development environments for testing and development purposes.
