Job Description
1. Route Tracking and Optimization: Review FedEx provided route and observe any barriers ahead- heavy traffic, weather, or road closures. Discuss and document any route deviations with drivers.
2. Load Scheduling: Communicate load assignments with drivers. Call ahead to destination facilities to request next assignment.
3. Down time minimization: Request local runs, facilitate spot coverage, switch run assignments to minimize unintended truck sit times.
4. Communication: Act as a liaison between drivers, customers, and other stakeholders. Provide drivers with necessary instructions and updates and relay information between all parties involved.
5. Problem-Solving: Address and resolve any issues that arise during transportation, such as delays, vehicle breakdowns, or route changes. Route these problems to fleet manager, office manager, or owner as needed.
6. Monitoring and Tracking: Use technology to track the location and status of trucks and deliveries. Ensure that drivers are adhering to schedules and regulations. Monitor hours of service.
7. Compliance: Ensure that all operations comply with legal and regulatory requirements, including hours of service rules, safety regulations, and safe driving.

8. Record-Keeping: Maintain detailed records of dispatch assignments, due times, delays and who they were communicated to, layovers, and any issues encountered. Learn about practices, staff, sort times of facilities and document them for future use.
9. Look for Efficiency: Identify areas of opportunity and come up with suggestions to improve. Track metrics to determine if efforts are effective.
10. Track paid vs Unpaid miles: Compare paid vs unpaid miles and identify optimizations.
11. Emergency Response: Quickly respond to emergencies or unexpected situations, such as aUpgrade to see actual info or severe weather, to minimize disruption to deliveries. Communicate with Fleet/ Safety Managers.
12. Coordination with Other Departments: Work closely with other departments, such as fleet manager, payroll, and owners, to ensure smooth operations and efficient delivery processes. Assist administrative staff in gathering and processing data for analysis.
13. Admit and learn from mistakes.
14. Perform Hand Offs with PM dispatcher and Office Manager.
15. Continue to develop skills: Overall, a trucking dispatcher needs strong organizational and communication skills, the ability to make quick decisions, and a good understanding of logistics and transportation management. Use downtime to improve these skills with continued education.
