About the Role
We are looking for a Senior Accountant to join our team remotely. This role requires strong technical expertise in Australian accounting and taxation, with the ability to work independently and proactively manage client financials. You will be responsible for financial reporting, tax compliance, and business advisory services for a diverse client base.
Scope of Work & Responsibilities
1. Financial Reporting & Compliance
• Prepare and review financial statements in compliance with Australian Accounting Standards (AASB).
• Ensure ASIC reporting compliance for companies, trusts, and partnerships.
• Prepare and lodge Business Activity Statements (BAS), Instalment Activity Statements (IAS), and PAYG Withholding.
• Conduct work-in-progress (WIP) reviews to ensure accuracy and completeness of financials.
2. Taxation & Advisory
• Prepare and review income tax returns for individuals, partnerships, trusts, and companies.
• Provide tax planning strategies to legally minimize tax liabilities.
• Advise on GST, FBT, CGT calculations, and compliance.
• Handle Div 7A compliance, trust distributions, small business tax concessions, and superannuation tax planning.
• Assist with structuring business entities for asset protection and tax efficiency.
3. Client Management & Business Advisory
• Act as the primary contact for clients, providing proactive advice and financial insights.
• Conduct quarterly business reviews, analyzing cash flow, profitability, and financial performance.
• Assist clients with business structuring, asset protection, and tax planning strategies.
• Support business acquisitions, valuations, and due diligence processes.
4. Payroll & Superannuation
• Oversee and ensure Single Touch Payroll (STP) compliance.
• Advise on Superannuation Guarantee (SG) obligations and employer compliance.
• Prepare and review self-managed super fund (SMSF) financials and tax returns (if applicable).
5. Technology & Process Improvement
• Work with Xero, MYOB, and QuickBooks to manage client accounts.
• Review Xero files, conduct reconciliations, and correct errors.
• Implement automated workflows and process improvements to increase efficiency.
• Provide software training and support to clients as needed.
Who We’re Looking For
To be successful in this role, you should have:
• At least 7 years' experience in an Australian public practice accounting firm.
• A Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
• CPA or CA qualification (or working towards completion).
• Strong knowledge of Australian tax laws, accounting standards, and compliance requirements.
• Experience in business structuring, tax planning, and asset protection.
• Proficiency in Xero, MYOB, and other cloud-based accounting software.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
• The ability to work independently, proactively manage client relationships, and meet deadlines.
