Junior PHP Programmer

Role: Junior Programmer
Expected salary: PHP45,000 per month +3% annual raise guaranteed
Hour: M-F Full time, long term work on Australian time

Job Description
The job primarily involves PHP programming, working to support an existing senior programmer in the development of in-house software. The role requires strong English skills, a basic understanding of linux as we work in an all linux environment and enough understanding of PHP 5-7 that you can complete tasks under the direction of a senior programmer.

We are looking for someone well versed in the following skillsets:
Your english needs to be good enough that you can repond to helpdesk/bug support tickets without the english appearing broken.

Level of experience required
We are not concerned about work experience, only the quality of your code. You will be working directly under another Filipino senior programmer with the expectation that you require training and assistance to become fully familiar with our software.

ChalkPort is a small business team in Australia with each member of staff working remotely from home, including several overseas staff. We provide our clients with a small suite of proprietary cloud software supported by quality processes and consultancy. We value loyalty, hard work and reliability.

Our team has been together for many years and we employ people on the understanding that they will be part of a stable, long-term team. Some of our software is quite large so it can take a while for new programmers to get used to coding for our software; we have an expectation that any new programmers will need a few months of familiarising themselves with the intricacies of our code before they will become truly useful to us. We are definitely not looking for anyone seeking short term employment.



Work environment
You will be expected to work from home using your own equipment. This means you need a stable internet connection and computer . ChalkPort manages all staff via a skype group chat and you will be expected to be able to respond to questions at any time during work hours, sometimes this may require a video or voice call - if you are not contactable via chat or call during work hours without good reason, then as far as we are concerned you are not at work and will act accordingly.

Expected work times
Most of our Filipino staff work from 7am to 3pm Filipino time, but 8am to 4pm is also acceptable if that suits you better.

We work Monday – Friday according to the Australian business calendar. This may mean that you may need to work through some local holidays, but will gain days off on Australian holidays. We have a two week break also over the Christmas period.

It is incredibly rare that anyone is asked to work overtime and if so it is paid overtime. The only time we have ever asked staff to work outside of normal work hours is in the case of extreme emergency where clients experience downtime due to some sort of server/cloud failure. However over the last decade ChalkPort has had a record of 99.94% up time.
